Sculptra, Toronto Tissue Stimulating Injections for Facial Volume and Contouring

Sculptra Toronto

If you’re looking to volumize skin and reduce lines and wrinkles, there are two injectable options: hyaluronic acid dermal filler or tissue stimulating injection such as Sculptra. Both are highly effective and have their place in dermatology; however, they work very differently.

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane have a solid and proven track record for skin rejuvenation. They’ve been used for several decades and the incidence of developing an adverse reaction is very rare. For this reason HA fillers are a popular choice for restoring lost volume and enhancing facial features.

Sculptra Helps the Skin Build Its Own Collagen for Long-Term Results

Growing in leaps and bounds in the use of Sculptra to give the skin a youthful plump. It’s injected into many of the same areas as HA filler, such as temples, cheeks and jawline. It can also be used in the hands. Perhaps the biggest advantage of Sculptra is that it’s very effective in rejuvenating the nasolabial folds, an area that is not suited particularly well to traditional filler.

Furthermore, one can expect considerably higher longevity with Sculptra vs. HA fillers. Although it requires two sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart, once the results have been achieved, Sculptra can last two years or longer. Undergoing a maintenance treatment once a year can prolong the results even more.

How Does Sculptra Work?

Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable microparticle that helps to stimulate collagen. It works with your own body to revitalize collagen in the deep dermis – the layer that gives your skin structure. As your natural collagen strands start to rebuild over time, you’ll see an improvement in facial volume and the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

What to Expect During and After

The first step is the consultation to determine if Sculptra is right for you. Once it has been established that you’re a suitable candidate, you injector will administer Sculptra into the areas you discussed using a very fine needle. It’s normal to experience swelling, redness and tenderness after treatment and this should subside within a few days.

Keep in mind that any existing wrinkles will most likely reappear a few days post treatment and while the collagen replacement process is underway. That’s because unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Scrulptra doesn’t produce dramatic results instantly. You should start seeing improvement in the treated areas within the first few weeks after each treatment session. Normally two sessions are recommended for the best outcome.

You injector will send you home with some instructions called the 5-5-5 rule: You’ll be required to massage the treated area for five minutes five times a day for five days after treatment. This will help the product settle and prevent any lumps and bumps from forming. If you do develop a nodule make sure to let your injector know right away so that it can be corrected as soon as possible.
